Lanier Technical College names four finalists for
2016 Lanier Technical College
Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year Award

Lanier Technical College is proud to announce the four finalists for the 2016 Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year Award. The winner will be announced at a luncheon for our GOAL and Rick Perkins Award Nominees on Wednesday, January 27.

Rushia Cooper
Business Administrative Technology Instructor - Barrow Campus.



Rushia joined the Lanier Tech team in 2004. Prior to coming to Lanier Tech Rushia served as an adjunct instructor at Athens Tech. Rushia holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration degree from the University of West Florida and a Master of Business Administration degree from Piedmont College. She recently graduated with an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Administration and Policy at the University of Georgia. Rushia is Microsoft Office Certified and is a certified Microsoft Instructor and Trainer.

Jayna Durden
Program Chair for the Cosmetology Department and
Cosmetology Instructor- Dawson Campus.



Jayna has been at Lanier Tech since 2009. She worked as a Cosmetologist in several salons for over 18 years before joining the Lanier Tech team. She also worked as a Special Education Paraprofessional with the Forsyth County School System for seven years. Jayna holds a Master Cosmetology Diploma from Albany Technical College and an Associate of Applied Science degree from what is now the University of North Georgia. Jayne serves on several committees including the Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment Committee, Distance Education Committee, and Community Outreach Committee. She also serves as a SkillsUSA advisor and helps represent Lanier Tech in the Dawson County Relay for Life.





Amy O’Dell
Division Chair for Professional and Public Services and Program Chair
and Lead Instructor, Interiors- Forsyth Campus.




Amy joined the Lanier Tech team in 2012. Amy worked in various roles in interior design firms for several years prior to coming to Lanier Tech. Amy also taught design at other colleges before arriving here. Amy holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Miami University (Ohio), a Master of Music from Florida State University, a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Brenau University, and a Master of Interior Design from Brenau. Amy serves on several committees including the QEP Committee, Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment Committee, and the Social Media Committee. Amy is a participant in this year’s iLEAD cohort. Enrollment in the Interiors program has increased 300% since her arrival in Summer 2012.

Jason Palmer
Division Chair for Arts and Sciences and
English Instructor - Oakwood Campus.




Jason joined the Lanier Tech family in 2011. Palmer worked as a manager for multiple car rental firms before coming to Lanier Tech. He was named Manager of the Year by Armada Vehicle Rental in 2006. Jason has also served as a freelance writer for the Barrow County News and is the Principal Writer and Editor for First Impression Writing in Atlanta. Jason was an English Teacher at Winder-Barrow High School for three years before coming to Lanier Tech. Jason has also served as an adjunct instructor at Gwinnett Tech and Georgia Gwinnett College. Jason holds the Associate of Arts degree from Montgomery County Community College (Pennsylvania), the Bachelor of Arts in English degree from the University of Georgia, and the Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Piedmont College. In addition to his teaching duties here, Jason served as Interim Dean of General Education while Dr. Ledford was recovering from knee replacement surgery.
