Criminal Justice Technology Program helps sponsor
3rd Annual Community Training in Dementia

Lanier Tech’s Criminal Justice Technology Program partnered with The Guest House, Inc. for the 3rd year as a Primary Sponsor. The CJT program helped focus the training on law enforcement. Since the disease is becoming more prevalent, law enforcement officers need as much information as possible on how to relate to, and how to redirect dementia patients.

Captain Harry Chapman of the Hall County Sheriff’s Department’s Reserve Unit, and Director of Lanier Tech’s Criminal Justice Technology Program, led the training organization along with Guest House Executive Director, Dana Chapman. Scott Masters, Director for Northeast Georgia Health Systems Emergency Medical Response, coordinated State Certification for all area EMS providers in attendance. Sr. Sgt. Kiley Sargent, Hall County Sheriff’s Office Training Coordinator/Jail Division, coordinated POST (Peace Officers Standards and Training) Credits for all Law Enforcement.

Keynote speaker and event trainer, Dr. Swati Gaur, C.M.D., is a Geriatric Physician and an expert in care for dementia.

Dr. Swati Gaur

Dr. Gaur served on The Board of Directors for The Guest House, Inc. for 7 years. She is currently the Medical Director at New Horizons Long Term Care Facilities and a Member of the Ethics Committee for Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Dr. Gaur attended medical school at Bhopal University/Gandhi Medical College and is a member of the American Geriatrics Society. She obtained her certification as a Medical Director through the American Medical Directors Association. She holds her License with the Georgia Composite Medical Board and served on the State Board of Medicine in Pennsylvania.

70 people attended, including Law Enforcement, EMS, Home Care Providers, interested community members, and family caregivers.

November is designated as National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month.
